Electrical Safety Tips for Children

Help children play it safe around electricity, both indoors and outdoors with these tips from Jackson EMC.

When You're Indoors:
  • Use plastic outlet protectors or outlets with swiveling face covers to protect children.
  • Don’t plug too many cords into a surge protector.
  • Never pull an electrical cord from the wall.
  • Never touch a worn, frayed or damaged electrical cord.
When You're Outdoors:
  • Never fly kites, drones or other remote controlled toys near power lines.
  • Stay away from power lines, power meters, pad-mounted transformers and electrical boxes.
  • Never climb trees that are near power lines.
  • Don’t touch or go near downed power lines
  • If you get something stuck, like a kite, in a power line, call Jackson EMC at 1-800-462-3691.
