Logan Maddox is a college intern in the Marketing and Member Services Department at Jackson EMC. She recently graduated from Jackson County High School and is enrolled at the University of North Georgia, where she studies Business Management. Logan has been at Jackson EMC for over a year.
We met with Logan to get to know her better and learn a bit more about her internship.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: My favorite food is probably spaghetti and garlic bread!
Q: Do you have any hobbies outside of school and work?
A: I love going to church, hanging out with my boyfriend, riding horses and helping out at my dad’s business.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: My family has six dogs (Lacey, Coco, Bella, Shelby, Mammas, Toby), two cats (Tigger and Garfield), 2 horses (Farrah and Ginger) and a pet squirrel (Remi).
Q: What exactly is your job description as a co-op student in Marketing and Member Services?
A: I carry out tasks like preparing documents, updating database records, typing, mailing and maintaining files. I handle office supplies and work on tasks for company and community events, such as Annual Meeting.
Q: How did you find out about this position at Jackson EMC?
A: My internship was listed through the Work Based Learning program at my school. My WBL teacher thought I’d be a great fit for this position and encouraged me to apply.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your internship?
A: Definitely the hands-on experience I get here. I also enjoy helping with the employee and community events and outreach we have here.
Q: What skills have you gained during your time at Jackson EMC?
A: Two skills I’ve learned here are patience and time management. Both are very important to how I carry out my job day to day.
Q: What have you learned during your internship at Jackson EMC that you think you wouldn’t have learned or experienced elsewhere?
A: I’d have to say how much information I’ve not only learned about the electric and power industry, but also information about cooperatives and how we function as an electric cooperative.
Q: How do you see this internship influencing your career path in marketing or a related field?
A: I’m not exactly sure what I want to do yet career-wise, but this internship has taught me so much and continues to give me opportunities to find what I like.
Q: What has been the most rewarding part of working in member and marketing services?
A: Probably seeing the ways that Jackson EMC and the Marketing and Member Services team help our members and the community.
Q: How do you manage your workload between college courses and your responsibilities at Jackson EMC?
A: My work schedule is super flexible around my college schedule. My supervisor constantly reminds me that school is my top priority, so this allows me to form my work schedule around my college courses, making it easier to work here and do school.
Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing an internship at Jackson EMC or in marketing and member services?
A: Jackson EMC has a great culture of helping each other within the company and helping those in the community. I think this is a great place to be as an intern. You learn a lot and get hands-on experience while here.
