Jackson EMC members can reduce their impact on the environment by buying “green energy” – electricity created from renewable resources – through Green Power EMC.

Jackson EMC and 37 other electric cooperatives in Georgia formed the nonprofit cooperative Green Power EMC to contract for electricity from renewable resources.

Jackson EMC members can opt for 150 kilowatt-hours of green energy as part of their monthly electricity use. This is about a tenth of the energy an average household uses in a month.

Renewable Sources

Green Power EMC uses green resources such as low-impact hydroelectric plants, biomass, landfill gas and solar to generate electricity.

Charges

Residential Members: To participate in Green Power, Jackson EMC residential members pay an additional $4.50 per month, or 3 cents per kilowatt-hour, to cover the added expense of generating energy from renewable resources. The cost is 15 cents per day to help the environment. Members can opt out of Green Power at any time and the $4.50 will not be charged after the current billing period.

Commercial Members: To participate in Green Power, Jackson EMC commercial members have two options – purchasing fixed size blocks or percentage use. Contact our Business Development team for complete details.
