School Programming
Jackson EMC offers the following educational programming for elementary to high school students:
- Power Town™ - a 24” x 48” table-top model of a mini-town that experiences common electrical situations and hazards. This program is geared for elementary-aged students. A Jackson EMC employee can bring the model into your classroom, or you can watch the video.
- Safety Trailer Power Line Demonstration - a program intended for grades 3-6, this interactive demo allows students to practice closing switches while wearing safety equipment. Students especially love watching a hot dog being fried on a power line.
The safety trailer demo requires an outdoor space. In the event of inclement weather, the safety trailer is unavailable.
- Bucket Truck – a Jackson EMC lineman uses a bucket truck to deliver a visual presentation.
- Speakers – Jackson EMC professionals can visit classrooms to teach students about topics like electrical safety, energy efficiency, the path of electricity and power restoration. Accompanying literature is also available.
- Career Days - Employees from Jackson EMC can attend career days at high schools to talk about careers and the education required to work in the energy industry. Jackson EMC staff are also qualified to discuss careers in communications, engineering, finance, information technology and marketing.
