Jackson EMC has sponsored and supported local FFA chapters and 4-H clubs for almost 70 years. Jackson EMC’s involvement in FFA and 4-H clubs stems from our agricultural roots in the rural areas of our service area.

We sponsor the annual Quality Beef Show and FFA Wiring Contest. Jackson EMC also sponsors FFA students to attend the Georgia Cooperative Council’s Youth Leadership Conference.

FFA Wiring Contest

Jackson EMC has sponsored the FFA Wiring Contest, designed to teacher high school students about electricity and wiring, since 1967. The event is sponsored by electric cooperatives and FFA chapters in Georgia.

The contest features three portions: A problem-solving, multiple choice exam; a practical wiring problem and an oral presentation. Participants use the same topic, and materials and props are provided.

Active FFA members enrolled in a high school agricultural education class in Jackson EMC’s service are eligible to participate. The top two individuals in each area contest compete at the state level. Interested students should contact their school’s FFA advisor for additional details.

The Wiring Contest is held each year.

Quality Beef Show

Jackson EMC staged its first Quality Beef Show in 1969. The show honors the agriculture industry’s contribution to the economy of northeast Georgia. FFA & 4-H students prepare their cattle for the competition and exhibit their cattle to a panel of judges.

Exhibitors may enter up to two heifers or steers per class and up to four head in the entire show. Heifers are shown by breed. The top two heifers in each breed class compete for Breed and Reserve Breed Champion of their respective breeds. All the Breed Champions then compete for Supreme Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion. Steers are shown by weight, and the top two steers from each class compete for Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Steer of the Show.

Interested students should contact their school’s 4-H or FFA club advisors for additional details.

The Quality Beef Show is held each year.

FFA clubs have prepared the barbecue chicken dinners for Jackson EMC’s Annual Meeting since 1957.
