Frequently Asked Questions
Jackson EMC members have the option of participating in the Operation Round Up program, which rounds each month’s electric bill up to the next whole dollar amount. For example, if your electric bill is $102.76, your bill would be rounded up 24 cents to $103.00. Monthly donations can be as little as one penny or as much as $.99. The average annual contribution per member is $6.
The primary purpose of Operation Round Up is to address charitable needs and provide financial assistance anywhere in the 10 counties (Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Franklin, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison and Oglethorpe) served by Jackson EMC. One hundred percent of your contributions go toward improving the lives of others, and the funds will not be used for political purposes or electric bills.
Members of Jackson EMC are automatically included in Operation Round Up. If you choose not to participate, or if you want to discontinue your contribution, simply go to the Operation Round Up form or contact Jackson EMC.
Individuals and organizations that seek funding from the Foundation must complete a very thorough grant application. Those applications will be reviewed by the Foundation board, which may request additional information or determine if personal visits are necessary for fact gathering. The board then votes on all grant requests.
Individuals and organizations may receive only one grant award from the foundation each year. Awards are limited to $5,000 for individuals and $20,000 for organizations. Complete guidelines are available on the Apply for a Grant page.
Through the collective giving by thousands of Jackson EMC members, a significant amount can be raised each year. During the program's first year, more than $800,000 was raised to benefit area organizations and individuals. Remember, your contributions are tax deductible and will help someone's life shine brighter.
