Right Choice Sun Power Rebate Program
Use the power of the sun to generate electricity or heat your water. Jackson EMC offers rebate programs to make solar power more affordable for our members. The Right Choice Sun Power rebate program is part of our commitment to promoting reliable renewable energy technologies.
The program covers using photovoltaic (PV) cells to convert sunlight into electricity and solar collectors to heat water using sunlight.
Financial Incentives:
Solar Powered Home: A one-time rebate of $450 per kilowatt (kW) of DC installed, up to 10kW for members who qualify. Federal and State tax credits may also apply.
Solar Water Heater: A one-time $525 rebate for members who qualify. Federal and State tax credits may also apply.
Special financing rates are available through the Associated Credit Union. Contact them at 770-448-8200 or through the Associated Credit Union website.
Only installations that have gone through our review process and have been installed and inspected according to program guidelines are eligible for rebates.
Power from the Sun
Here’s how the solar PV plan works. When the sun is shining, the power you’re not using goes to our electric grid through a net metering agreement, and you receive a credit on your electric bill. When the sun goes down, you purchase your electricity from us. You save on your electric bill, and Jackson EMC can reduce peak electric requirements.
On average, a 4.5 kW system will cost about $41,000. With our rebates plus state and federal tax credits, the cost can be as low as $26,000. (These estimates are provided by findsolar.com [www.findsolar.com] and are used for illustration only.)
Hot Water from Solar Heat
Solar thermal water heating uses the sun’s energy directly to heat water. Tubes inside a rooftop absorber panel heat the transfer fluid flowing through them. This warmed fluid goes through the heat exchanger in your storage tank, heating the water in the tank. A solar water heating system can cost $6,000 to $8,000 before rebates and tax credits.
