Change Makes a Difference

For more than 10 and a half years, contributions from Jackson EMC members have made a positive difference in our community. Through Operation Round Up® and the Jackson EMC Foundation, members have the opportunity to give back by rounding up their electric bills to the next dollar amount. And that spare change adds up!

Since 2010, we’ve been hitting another million dollar milestone on the Foundation’s anniversary in October. This year, the Foundation is ahead of schedule! As of May 2016, The Jackson EMC Foundation has awarded $11 Million in grants to local organizations and folks who need a helping hand. Our members are currently giving at a rate of over $90,000 per month, and things don’t look like they’re slowing down anytime soon. As the cooperative continues to grow, so will the impact of your contributions. “Members have seen what we’re doing and they’re excited about helping the community,” said Bonnie Jones, Director of Public Relations and Communications. “It’s such an easy way to give back and people are motivated because they know it does so much good for so many.”

May’s organizational grant recipients include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta’s Lawrenceville Unit, MedLink Georgia, Boy Scouts of America, FOCUS (Families of Children Under Stress), and Disabled American Veterans, among others. For a full list of grant recipients, visit www.jacksonemc.com/foundation-awards.

“When we all give a little, it adds up,” said President/CEO Chip Jakins. “That’s what cooperatives are all about – working together to do something you can’t do by yourself.”

On average, Jackson EMC members who participate in Operation Round Up contribute $6 per year, none contributing more than $11.88. Grants are available to any organization that serves one or more of the 10 counties in our service territory, or any individual living in those counties. Applicants do not need to be members of the cooperative.
