2017 WYT Servant Leaders
Meet the young leaders from our community who make up Jackson EMC’s delegation on the Washington Youth Tour.
Sheefa Ali / Sophomore / Collins Hill High School
Sheefa is a sophomore at Collins Hill High School in Gwinnett County. She is one of ten students in the United States who won a national prize at Le Grand Concours (National French Contest). She actively participates in French National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Beta Club and the Collins Hill High School Women’s Chorus. Also, she served as communications officer for the Atlanta Model UN Conference. In additional to community service through her school clubs, Sheefa packs Blessing Bags of food and water for shelters and tutors first graders in reading. Celebrating the unique diversity of her high school, she is planning the inaugural Culture Night for spring. Sheefa’s career goal is to be a neurologist.
Gabriela Maduro-Salvarrey / Sophomore / Peachtree Ridge High School
Gabriela Maduro-Salvarrey is a sophomore at Peachtree Ridge High School (PRHS) in Gwinnett County where she serves as the representative on the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team. She sings in the PRHS Chorale and is an active member of the PRHS Green Team, which promotes responsible environmental behavior at school and in the community, and the PRHS Buddy Bunch club, which promotes interaction and friendship between students in regular and special education classes. Gabriela created the Social Justice League at PRHS to educate students about current events and their relation to social justice issues while promoting healthy debate and public service through volunteer projects. Additionally, she volunteers at The Hudgens Center for the Arts summer camps and is an active member of the Citizen’s Climate Lobby, Gwinnett chapter. Gabriela aspires to represent her community in the U.S. House of Representatives one day.
Cecelia Tatro / Junior / Johnson High School
Cecelia Tatro is a junior at Johnson High School in Hall County where she is pursuing a Full International Baccalaureate Diploma. She is an active member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Student Council, Spanish Honors Society and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Her community service includes sweeping trails at Elachee Nature Center and organizing the food pantry at the Northeast Georgia Food Bank, plus, she created a letter-writing program for local Hospice patients who did not have visitors. Cecelia was selected for the Youth Leadership Hall program through the Hall County Chamber of Commerce and served as a Hugh O’Brien Youth Conference ambassador. Cecelia’s career goal is to be a dermatologist.
Trudy Ward / Sophomore / Madison County High School
Trudy Ward is a sophomore at Madison County High School. She is a wind instrument extraordinaire, playing both the flute and the oboe, her favorite, in the marching band and wind ensemble. Also, she plays the synthesizer. She prefers classical music and is especially drawn to the John Philip Sousa marches. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Youth Leadership Team. Trudy’s community service includes sorting clothes and home goods for the Salvation Army, working on a renovation project for a horse therapy farm and delivering meals to the homeless. Additionally, she helps assemble weekend food bags for middle school students through the intheMIDDLEmeals program. Trudy’s dream is to study at The Juilliard School.
