Buying Green Power produced from renewable resources can be a great part of your strategy to reduce your environmental impact while attracting consumers looking for green companies.
More and more, customers and potential business partners look for environmentally friendly companies when buying or investing.
Jackson EMC is one of the 38 Georgia electric cooperatives that formed the nonprofit cooperative Green Power EMC to contract for electricity from renewable resources to offer EMC members.
Commercial customers can purchase Green Power in 1,000 kilowatt-hour (kWh) per month blocks or have a percentage of their monthly energy provided by Green Power. The 1,000-kWh blocks are $25 per month for each block purchased. If you opt for a percentage purchase, the cost is $0.025 per kWh of Green Power up to 40,000 kWh per month. For more information, see the Green Power rider for commercial rates.
The power currently comes from methane gas from two landfill sites, a low-impact hydropower facility and a biomass facility that uses waste wood. Green Power EMC continues to look for more opportunities to add renewable energy generating capacity.
Sun Power for Schools
Part of the price of each Green Power kilowatt-hour goes into a research and development fund, a portion of which funds the Sun Power for Schools program. Through the program, students at participating Georgia schools can study solar power first hand.
