Your Jackson EMC membership gives you the opportunity to join with other cooperative members to make a positive impact in your community through Operation Round Up®.
Founded by Palmetto Electric (Hardeeville, S.C.) in 1989, Operation Round Up is an innovative program that provides financial assistance to charitable or 501(c)(3) organizations as well as individuals in need. Starting October 2005, your cooperative joins more than 200 other EMCs committed to using small change to make a big impact in their communities.
Developed to provide funds for special and individual needs, and assistance in emergency situations, Operation Round Up allows our cooperative members to help when other resources aren't readily available. You can take comfort knowing 100 percent of your contribution will go toward making a difference in the lives of others. Funds won't be used for political purposes or electric bills.
How does Operation Round Up work?
No need for a calculator or figuring in your head; your monthly electric bill is automatically "rounded up" to the nearest dollar. For example, if your bill is actually $63.73, you'll see $64.00 on your electric bill, with the 27 cents going to Operation Round Up.
Contributions average out to approximately $6 a year per account - less than the cost of a soft drink or cup of coffee a month. Donations are tax deductible, and you'll receive a summary of your yearly contributions each January.
How will the money be distributed?
Operation Round Up donations are placed in a trust and distributed by an independent board of directors called the Jackson EMC Foundation. Made up of volunteer members within the 10 counties served by Jackson EMC, the Foundation will process and evaluate all requests for assistance, and grants will be awarded throughout the year.
What are the benefits of Operation Round Up?
As the largest electric cooperative in the state, our membership can raise a significant amount of money each year. Based on numbers from sister EMCs participating in Operation Round Up, if only 75 percent of our members participate, we could potentially raise $770,000!
Funds may be used for programs such as meals to the elderly or to support organizations with special program needs. Your contributions are tax deductible.
How do I contribute?
Your Jackson EMC membership automatically includes you in Operation Round Up. You can go here to give us your ideas and suggestions or to decline participation. You'll have several opportunities for feedback through bill inserts and Jemco News over the next several months as well.
