Jackson EMC helps area youth achieve their dreams.

Jackson EMC is proud to offer three scholarship awards to help area youth achieve their dreams. Scholarships are based on academic ability, faculty recommendations and financial need. A scholarship committee carefully reviews each application in search of the best applicants.

The 2008 Scholarship application deadline has passed. To find out more about the 2009 Scholarships you may also visit your high school counselor's office or contact Kay Parks at 706-367-6122 or by e-mail at kparks@jacksonemc.com. We'll begin accepting completed applications in November of 2008.

Walter Harrison Scholarship

The Harrison scholarship is named in honor of a leader in the state and national electric cooperative movements. The Harrison Trust awards several $1,000 scholarships statewide to undergraduate students enrolled in or accepted by a Georgia college, university or technical school.

Judges select winners for the Harrison Scholarship each year based on financial need and academic ability. Students must begin using the award during the first year after it is awarded. Any funds unused after the end of the second year revert to the Trust.

A.T. Sharpton Scholarships

These scholarships honor the late Mr. A.T. Sharpton, a former chairman of the Jackson EMC Board of Directors. As a child, Mr. Sharpton dreamed of attending Georgia Tech, but due to financial and family circumstances, he set aside this dream and went to work to support his seven brothers and sisters instead. After many years of hard work and dedication, he led Oglethorpe Power Company from a company valued at $195 in 1974 into the corporation it is today; however, through all the success, Mr. Sharpton never lost his concern for young people or his passion for education. These scholarships pay tribute to Mr. Sharpton's dreams of going to college.

The A.T. Sharpton-Gainesville College Scholarship Award

This scholarship award is available exclusively for students planning to attend Gainesville College. Financial need is a primary consideration, and judges also consider academic average, class rank, standardized test scores and/or faculty recommendations.

The A.T. Sharpton Unrestricted Scholarship Award

This scholarship award is funded through the same trust as the Gainesville College Scholarship but is payable to students enrolled in any two- or four-year college or university in the nation. Judges will consider financial need; however, academic average, class rank, standardized test scores and/or faculty recommendations are of equal importance. This scholarship is available for both undergraduate and graduate students.
