Right Choice™ Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Audit

Too Hot? Too Cold?
High Energy Bills? Problems with Air Quality?

You need a Home Performance Audit

With a Right Choice™ Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Audit you’ll:

  • Get a detailed energy analysis of your home.
  • Increase your day-to-day comfort.
  • Save money on energy bills.
  • Maximize efficiency.
  • Improve air quality.
  • Breathe easier.

The audit begins with a visual inspection to ensure that insulation and air sealing meets current energy standards. A technician then conducts the analysis using specialized equipment to pinpoint potential problem areas. The scientific analysis also measures your home’s air infiltration. If energy upgrades or repairs are needed, you’ll be connected with a contractor in the Right Choice network.

To participate in the contractor network, all weatherization, insulation and HVAC improvement contractors undergo specialized training and agree to provide high standards of workmanship.

Studies have shown that a home’s heating and air conditioning ducts leak about 25 percent of the air that passes through them because they are improperly sealed. This could easily result in high energy bills and less than comfortable rooms.

Home performance testing uses the latest technology to:

  • Measure supply and return airflows
  • Measure home’s air infiltration
  • Determine temperature and relative humidity
  • Test HVAC system performance

How long will the audit take?

In the time it takes to have dinner and watch your favorite movie, the high tech audit is complete in about two to four hours.

How Much Does the Home Performance Audit Cost?

Research shows that many home inspections often cost from $250 to $750 and can take as long as six hours to complete. Our audit costs average $350 for the heating and cooling system and the home performance analysis. Homes with multiple systems will incur additional fees for each system.

Jackson EMC members can receive rebates to offset a portion of these costs.

Are there special financing options?

Many of the improvements may be large enough to consider financing. Ask your Jackson EMC residential marketing representative about our low interest loans and financing options available.

Who conducts the analysis?

Jackson EMC has partnered with the energy efficiency experts at Home Diagnostic Solutions®. This independent agency uses diagnostic testing equipment to provide a scientific analysis of your home’s energy performance.

What can I expect from the audit?

You’ll receive a prioritized list of recommendations to improve your home’s energy efficiency. Your list offers ways to increase comfort level, improve indoor air quality and lower your energy bill.

The technician also provides you a contractor that can make the energy upgrades or repairs. Once a participating contractor completes the work, your home will undergo follow-up diagnostic tests to compare results to the original tests. If your home passes the testing process, you may qualify for the Right Choice Improved Home program. An additional rebate and the lower Right Choice rate is available for Right Choice Improved Homes with electric heat pumps.

What are common improvements a home may need?

  • Installing additional insulation
  • Air sealing
  • Sealing, modifying or replacing the duct system
  • Replacing heating and cooling equipment
