Reduce Your Electric Bill up to 25 Percent with Time-of-Use Rate

Reduce your electricity costs year-round with the Time-of-Use rate. This energy saving program offers a lower electric rate for reduced electricity consumption between 3 and 8 p.m. on weekdays from June 1 through September 15. Reducing energy usage during summer peak demand periods helps us control the high cost of purchasing electricity in the summer. By avoiding operating high energy use equipment such as air conditioners and electric water heaters between 3 and 8 p.m., you’ll receive a lower billing rate per kilowatt-hour on the electricity you use the rest of the time.

Here’s how it works. Your meter records all energy used during peak- and off-peak periods by date and time. Your cost of electricity per kilowatt-hour from 3 to 8 p.m. on summer weekdays between June 1 and September 15 will be 32.99 cents. Although that amount is three times the normal rate, you’ll be limiting electric use during this time.

On summer weekends, at non-peak times and the rest of the year, your electric rate will be much lower, only 5.89 cents per kilowatt-hour, compared to the normal residential rate of 7.90-8.32 cents per kilowatt-hour.

To fully see the maximum benefits of Time-of-Use, we suggest you stay on the rate plan for at least 12 months. To participate, you must sign up for Time-of-Use rates by May 15 of each year. If the plan doesn’t work for you, you can always revert back to the general rate. For more information, please contact your local district office or go to www.jacksonemc.com/rates.
