New Services in the New Year
January Message from Randall Pugh
President/CEO
New Year's resolutions are often great ideas in the beginning, even though we somehow forget them within a couple of months. That's why we don't make resolutions at Jackson EMC, instead we focus on promises we can keep.
In making those promises, we're working to provide you power at the flip of a switch. To ensure power reliability, your home's meter is about to get smarter. We're introducing Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), commonly referred to as Smart Meter.
Remote access will give us the ability to check your meter for service issues without having to send a representative to your home. This helps protect the environment because we're able to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. We'll even have the ability to spot issues before you notice there's a problem. For instance, if tree limbs are brushing against power lines, the brief circuit interruption will register in the meter and hopefully be reported before the limbs cause a power outage.
With more than 200,000 meters to upgrade, we've divided the project over a three-year period. This month, we're testing the equipment on a small group of customers before we launch it throughout our service territory.
