Fluffy blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs and thick-sliced bacon – a perfect breakfast combination for lazy Saturday mornings at mom's kitchen table. Your electric generation sources are similar to a good ole country breakfast. The right amount of coal, nuclear, natural gas, hydropower and biomass give Jackson EMC the perfect blend of generation sources to deliver you reliable power at the flip of a switch.

There's been a lot of discussion surrounding generation, and the pros and cons of each source. In an ideal world, we could rely solely on renewables such as wind, solar and biomass; however, there's not enough of any of these sources to economically provide the generation we need to keep the lights on.

Home theaters, gadgets, pools and spas make it easier for people to spend more time at home enjoying their own forms of entertainment. Increasing kilowatt hours per household is the trend, and as the demand rises, so does our need to secure reliable generation sources. We'll need 1,000 additional megawatts of base load generation in the next 10 years.

To meet these demands, we've done two things – first we looked at ways to manage our current demand better and then we looked at affordable generation projects for the additional power we'll need to serve you. Through demand management, we can all work together to improve energy efficiency and decrease our demand. We have a history of programs and services dedicated to energy efficiency, such as the Right Choice™ Home Analyzer online tool and the Do-It-Yourself Energy Audit kit.

We're also investing in new resources such as Plant Washington, a state-of-the-art coal-fired thermal power plant, with Power4Georgians – a group of 10 Georgia electric cooperatives. Power4Georgians will provide base load electricity to nearly 700,000 EMC members to meet future energy needs.

We recently introduced additional member options in renewable resources. You can take advantage of our Right Choice Sun Power Solar Water Heater and Solar Powered Home Programs, which provide rebates to help offset the costs.

We believe in offering you options to take control of your home's energy efficiency. To do our part, we're continuing our search for economical, reliable options to ensure we have the perfect mix of generation to provide power when you need it.
