Electric Cooperatives, Like Classic TV, Stand the Test of Time

March Message from Randall Pugh
President/CEO

Some of yesteryear's most popular primetime shows, such as Andy Griffith, Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie, can still be found on your television screen. These classic shows not only entertain; they give us a glimpse at life from another time. Some say cooperatives are like those television shows: outdated, relics from another time and not needed today. To that I say, "Stay tuned."

Nearly 1,000 electric membership corporations serve 34 million Americans in 46 states. Georgia's population alone grew 26 percent in the past decade and now exceeds 8 million citizens. Four million of those citizens depend on electric cooperatives to deliver reliable, affordable power to their homes and businesses.

Georgia's EMCs serve 73 percent of the state's land area and were formed when investor-owned utilities were unwilling or unable to serve rural areas. Collectively, rural communities decided to form cooperatives and bring electricity to Georgia farms. Delivering a personal level of customer service and focusing on community involvement is part of the cooperative way of doing business. We have local offices, and our employees are a part of the communities we serve, or perhaps your neighbors.

EMCs may have formed out of necessity many years ago, but just like those classic TV shows, electric cooperatives stand the test of time. Our communities have developed as our members' needs and lifestyles changed; and we continue to upgrade our products and services to meet your lifestyle needs. We're your electric cooperative, and each day we work to provide reliable, affordable electricity with exceptional customer service.
