Learning you have cancer isn't easy, especially when bills for uninsured necessities add up. For Her Glory, a Gainesville agency that purchases items for cancer patients such as wigs, compression sleeves, gloves, mastectomy bras and other items not covered by insurance, received a $5,000 grant from the Jackson EMC Foundation thanks to Operation Round Up®. The agency's mission is to help restore the quality of life for cancer survivors who can't buy these items through other resources. Your support of ORU helps organizations like For Her Glory carry out their mission of serving others.
Says a recipient, "I'm a 42-year-old woman with lung cancer. My husband has missed a lot of time from work taking me to all the doctors and going to get the tests done, so we've been in a financial fix. . . We certainly couldn't afford a wig for me. The idea of anyone seeing me with no hair, even myself, upset me more than being sick, going through chemo and surgery. Then I was told about For Her Glory and I broke out crying, but with happy tears this time."
The Jackson EMC Foundation Board of Directors awarded a total of $79,288 in grants during their May meeting, including $60,395 to organizations and $18,893 to individuals. For details, see the Operation Round Up grants list.
