Chamber Members, Retirees Tour New Jackson EMC Corporate Headquarters

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours for Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce members and cooperative retirees marked the official opening of Jackson EMC's corporate headquarters building November 1.

The building houses its executive, human resources, finance, information systems, Contact Center, engineering, marketing and public relations functions that support the cooperative's 10-county service area. Corporate staff moved to the new building on September 29.

The two-story brick building, which was designed by Millard Architects, Inc., Roswell, and constructed by Rogers Construction Company, Lawrenceville, is located adjacent to the building that now houses the cooperative’s Jefferson District operations.

Designed to accommodate a third floor in the future, the 64,019-square-foot building has 167 work spaces, including offices and cubicles, a board room, four conference rooms, two break rooms, a training room and a hardened computer/communications room.

The new building was necessitated by the cooperative’s unprecedented growth. In just the past 10 years, the number of meters served by Jackson EMC has increased 67 percent. Much of the growth in the cooperative's service area is now occurring in its Jefferson District, which serves Jackson, Banks and Barrow counties. Moving the corporate staff to a separate building provided the growing Jefferson District with much needed work space.

Jackson EMC's board of directors dedicated the building on October 6 and installed a plaque honoring company President/CEO Randall Pugh, who has guided the cooperative through more than twenty years of unprecedented growth and technological change, for his years of service to the cooperative.
