High temperatures and humidity levels made the company's warehouse floors dangerously slippery. Short reported the problem to the property managers, who offered to install a special humidifying air conditioning system as a solution. Concerned that energy costs would increase and that air conditioning might not work, Short called on Randy Dellinger, Jackson EMC commercial/industrial marketing representative, for help.

"I knew our moisture problem wasn't directly related to our electric service; however, not knowing the financial impact of air conditioning a 30,000 square-foot warehouse left too much to chance," said Short.

Dellinger put Short in touch with Alan Shedd, Jackson EMC commercial/industrial engineer. Shedd spent several weeks researching the impact to the company's electric usage. "Alan is one of the most qualified, helpful and patient people I've had the pleasure of working with. Without him, we would have doubled our electricity usage and ended up in a financial bind in the process. Alan's ability to translate technical terms into language we could understand made this process much easier than we imagined."

Shedd says even though National Allergy's problem wasn't specifically electricity related, he considers his role as part of the customer service offered to our partners in business. "Many utilities feel that their responsibilities end at the meter. At Jackson EMC, we go beyond that to help members troubleshoot, research and ultimately run their business better. It's just part of our commitment to partnership," said Shedd.
