About Jackson EMC's Scholarships
Didn't think you could? Think again, the future is in tomorrow's leaders, and for this year's A.T. Sharpton Scholarship winners, the future is bright!
Ready to Tackle College
Matthew Baker
Matt Baker, son of Kellie Baker of Hull, is ready to tackle life with the same amount of fervor he possessed on Madison County High's varsity football team. While in school, Matthew mastered being an all-around student with years on the varsity track and basketball teams, seven consecutive years of perfect attendance and a senior superlative honor of "best dressed." Matthew believes athletics is one of the best ways to prepare for life's challenges because it's the perfect combination of teamwork, competition, discipline and leadership. Matthew will enter Gainesville College this fall, and
plans to pursue a career in physical therapy with an emphasis in
sports medicine.
In the Swing of Things
Jeremy Boleman
Jeremy Boleman is no stranger to college life, having completed his freshman year at Gainesville College. The son of Robert and Dale Boleman, Jeremy received his first A.T. Sharpton Scholarship last year and is now making quite an impression in college. Jeremy took home the first place prize for the Gainesville College Writing Contest in the informal essay category. However, college life is much more than books to Jeremy. Involved in intramural sports and the Baptist Student Union in college, Jeremy believes in serving others locally and abroad. This summer Jeremy plans to make two mission trips, one to the Philippines and another month-long trip to Asia. Dedicated to education, Jeremy works as a substitute and after-school program teacher, and plans to become an elementary school teacher when he graduates.
A Bright Forecast
Trent Galloway
Trent Galloway has accomplished a lot in his four years while attending Robert W. Johnson High School in Gainesville. Serving as president of the Future Business Leaders of America and Student Government Association, chair of the School Advisory Committee and a member of the Vocational Instruction Career Association kept Trent very busy; however, that didn't deter him from flying high. The son of Faron and Donna Galloway of Gainesville, Trent is also a private pilot. Trent decided he wanted to be a broadcast meteorologist in fourth grade and still holds to that dream. He will be attending West Georgia to major in geography. He also plans to obtain his teaching certificate and American Meteorological Society seal through an Atmospherical Sciences certificate program.
Music to the Ears
Stephanie Moore
When Stephanie Moore received the A.T. Sharpton scholarship, it was music to her ears. The daughter of Greg and Cindy Moore of Danielsville, Stephanie is an accomplished flutist who knows music will always be a part of her life. A member of the District 13 honor band, University of Georgia concert band and youth music all-stars, Stephanie's activities go far beyond the band room. Honored on the National Honor Roll throughout her high school career, a member of the National Honor Society, Drama Club, Historical Society and Multicultural Club, Stephanie's involvement at Madison County High School is as well rounded as her plans for her music career. Stephanie plans to obtain a bachelor's degree in flute performance with hopes of studying at Julliard or the Eastman School of Music. Stephanie plans to study abroad to learn more about the history of music and its origin. She also plans to study the management aspect of performing musicians, which she believes will prepare her as she pursues her dream of becoming a professional concert musician.
