Jackson EMC offers three scholarship awards to area youth. Scholarships are based on academic ability, faculty recommendations and financial need.
Emily Galeano
A.T. Sharpton Scholarship Winner
A.T. Sharpton Scholarship winner Emily Galeano plans to major in psychology at Valdosta State University with plans to continue on to medical school to become a psychiatrist. "It seems hard to follow all of my goals, but hearing the phrase carpe diem (seize the day) pushes me to go after what I want." Emily is the daughter of Sandra and Oscar Gomez of Winder.
Briana Griffin
A.T. Sharpton Scholarship Winner
"I aspire to gain a position as a surgeon at Walter Reed Army Medical Center to treat wounded soldiers," says A.T. Sharpton Scholarship recipient Briana Griffin. Scheduled to begin her education at the University of Georgia in the fall, Briana has big plans for her future. Briana is the daughter of Brian and Jill Griffin of Jefferson.
Danielle Haygood
A.T. Sharpton Gainesville State College Scholarship Winner
That's where A.T. Sharpton Gainesville State College scholarship recipient Danielle Haygood wants to go when she graduates. "If being a positive role model and influencing the life of just one child…, then my goals will have been accomplished." Haygood is the daughter of Charles and Cyndi Pinion of Braselton.
Sarah Major
A.T. Sharpton Scholarship Winner
A.T. Sharpton Scholarship winner Sarah Major will attend Emmanuel College in the fall, where she plans to major in English. "I hope to pursue a career as a high school English teacher, and one day teach honors English and AP literature, both of which were my favorite classes to attend." The daughter of Sid and Gail Major of Commerce, Sarah plans to continue her college education in pursuit of her master's degree.
Grace Montgomery
A.T. Sharpton Gainesville State College Scholarship Winner
Grace Montgomery, A.T. Sharpton Gainesville State College scholarship winner, plans to major in marine biology and minor in fine arts. "My dream is to become an art teacher and drama coach during the fall and winter and work in a marine biology field during the summer." She is the daughter of Calvin and Maxie Montgomery of Lula.
Amanda Stephens
Walter-Harrison Scholarship Winner
Walter-Harrison Scholarship winner Amanda Stephens plans to attend the University of Georgia, where she will major in agricultural education to pursue her passion – teaching. Amanda is the daughter of Chris and Lisa Stephens of Jefferson.
Litany Koshy
A.T. Sharpton Gainesville State College Scholarship Winner
A career in early childhood education is calling Litany Koshy, A.T. Sharpton Gainesville State College scholarship winner. "Teachers have the important responsibility of shaping young peoples' lives. With this responsibility comes great pride and joy. [Teaching] children has always been a passion for me." Litany is the daughter of Lealson and Mercy Koshy of Buford.
