Let's face it, college is expensive.
In today's high-priced education market, every little bit helps. Sign up for the 2004 Energy Bowl for a chance to win a scholarship to offset the high costs of higher learning. The winner will also serve as a Washington Youth Tour delegate and earn an educational grant for his or her high school.
Similar to Jeopardy, the fast-paced academic bowl will test students' knowledge of electricity, energy, science and environment. Energy Bowl 2004 will be Thursday, November 11 at the Jackson EMC office in Jefferson.
High school juniors are eligible to compete for a $1,000 scholarship to a college, university or technical school of choice, a $1,000 educational grant for their high school and an all-expense paid trip to our nation's capital.
To learn more about Energy Bowl 2004, students can contact their high school counselors or download an application. For questions or to get a mailed application, please contact Bonnie Jones at 706-367-6114 or by email at bjones@jacksonemc.com.
How to Participate
Participants must be 11th grade students with a desire to learn more about electricity, energy, science and environment. Students must complete an official application and have at least one recommendation letter from a school official or community leader. Application and letters of recommendation are due at Jackson EMC corporate offices in Jefferson no later than 4 p.m., Tuesday, October 26.
Many students from a high school may apply; however, only one student from each high school will be selected to participate. If more than one student applies from a school, selection will be based on GPA, leadership and community involvement. If selected, a study packet will be sent to the contestant's high school.
Contestants will have two weeks to study the packet in preparation for Energy Bowl 2004.
