Group Receives $15,000 Grant
The Gwinnett Housing Resource Partnership offers financial planning assistance through the Home Investment Academy. The Home Investment Academy (HIA) provides money management courses in both English and Spanish to less fortunate individuals and families living primarily in Gwinnett County. The program covers improving credit scores, promoting savings, predatory lending, foreclosure prevention and a variety of other home ownership topics. Upon completion, graduates can apply the course toward criteria to qualify for possible down-payment assistance of up to $7,500.
HIA will use its $15,000 grant toward educational materials, instruction services and program administrative costs. The program provides financial education through six classes scheduled at various times, including nights and weekends. For more information on the HIA program, visit their Web site at www.theimpactgroup.org.
The Jackson EMC Foundation Board of Directors awarded the grant to HIA as part of a total of $103,796 in grants awarded during their June meeting, including $87,500 to organizations and $16,296 to individuals.
