Qualified Right Choice with ENERGY STAR® homes receive a score of their level of efficiency. "ENERGY STAR® homes have a quick-to-understand numeric score. Like a golf score, the lower the better. For instance, 85 or less meets the ENERGY STAR® standard," Bryan explains. What is ENERGY STAR®?

ENERGY STAR® began as an Environmental Protection Agency program in 1992 to recognize energy efficient computers. By 1995, the U.S. Department of Energy partnered with the EPA to include consumer products such as major household appliances, home electronics, windows and doors, heating and cooling equipment, light fixtures and homes such as Jackson EMC's Right Choice homes.

Products earning the blue ENERGY STAR® logo exceed government standards of energy efficiency, resulting in lower operating costs for the consumer and fewer greenhouse gases released in the environment.
