Evans Named to Jackson EMC Foundation Board

He succeeds John Mitchell as Banks County representative.

George EvansGeorge W. Evans, a resident of Georgia since 1960 and of Banks County for nearly 30 years, has been named the Banks County representative to the Jackson EMC Foundation board of directors. Evans succeeds John Mitchell, who was recently named to the Jackson EMC board of directors.

The Jackson EMC Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization set up to represent the members of Jackson EMC and distribute money collected from participating members through Operation Round Up®. The 11-member volunteer board of directors meets regularly to review and select grant applications for funding worthwhile, charitable purposes that will improve lives a nd respond to immediate needs within the counties where Jackson EMC provides electric service.

Evans has had a 47-year career in banking, and currently serves part-time as chairman, director, loan committee member and business development officer for First Georgia Banking Company in Homer and Jefferson.

In addition to his banking career, Evans has served as a director of the Georgia Mountains Economic Development Corporation for more than 20 years. He also served as president of the Banks County Chamber of Commerce for four years, and is a past member of the Banks County Planning Commission and Banks County Industrial Development Authority.

He has been a member of the Commerce Kiwanis Club for 27 years and is a past president; is a past member and past president of the Homer Ruritan Club; is president of the Mended Hearts Chapter 171; and served as treasurer of the Commerce Lions Club for eight years.

Evans has been married to wife Martha for 45 years, and the couple has three children and four grandchildren.
