It's electric! Students in the Electric Vehicle Education Program can construct a drivable electric vehicle right in their classroom. A non-profit organization dedicated to engaging students, teachers and the community in challenging and effective learning in the areas of science, technology and the environment, the program received an $11,000 JEMC Foundation grant to help fund upcoming training and projects.
Electric Master Teaching Vehicle (E-MTV) kits and program support will go to three schools to offset the program's set-up costs. The kits are part of a training program to help teachers learn how to construct an E-MTV. In addition to the training kits, each participating school also receives funding to implement the program.
Students learn physics and science principles in a fun, innovative learning environment. Alternative energy sources are researched and discussed as part of the curriculum, including biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel. Encouraging problem-solving skills and promoting energy efficient transportation education, the EV Education Program also develops students' communication and teamwork skills.
