Here are a few tips for preserving your landscaping during Georgia's recurring droughts:
Mulch: Apply about three inches of mulch to help keep the soil moist. Put mulch two to three inches away from the base of trees and shrubs.
Fertilize less: Rapidly growing plants need more water.
Mow correctly: Raise your mower blade and cut grass higher. Keep your blade sharp.
Water correctly: Water deeply so the soil absorbs water six to eight inches deep, and use more efficient watering methods, such as soaker hoses or drip irrigation. Use a timer on your hose to automatically turn the water on and off to conform with watering restrictions.
