Are you gone most of the day?
Work, family and community activities have you leaving before the sun comes up, and home when it's setting? If so, Jackson EMC has a conservation program that may work best for you. If you use most of your electricity during evenings, nights and weekends, the Time-of-Use rate is an ideal way to save on your electric bills.
Electricity is a precious source that is available only for the moment. Once it's surging through power lines, there's no way to bottle it up or save it for a rainy day. The on-demand need for electricity makes conservation efforts crucial during the summer months. Electricity is in higher demand in the summer during the hours of peak usage, so when you reduce the amount of energy you use during peak hours, you can see a noticeable difference in your electric bill.
When you sign up for the Time-of-Use rate, you agree to actively help reduce energy consumption during peak energy use hours (3 p.m. - 8 p.m.) from June through mid-September. The way this works is you avoid operating high-energy use equipment like air conditioners and electric water heaters during those hours, and you receive a lower billing rate per kilowatt-hour.
The last day to sign up is Friday, May 14. In order to see the maximum benefits of Time-of-Use, you need to stay on the rate for at least 12 months; however, if the rate plan doesn't work best for you, you can revert back to the general rate at any time. For more about the time-of-use rate, please contact your local district office or see Schedule ATOU-4 — Residential Time-Of-Use Service.
