You may see a different type of vehicle donning Jackson EMC's logo in the Gwinnett District.

Jackson EMC now owns two Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), one of which is being used by our field service representatives in Gwinnett, and the other in Jefferson District. In our efforts to be good corporate citizens, we not only encourage our members to be energy efficient and preserve the environment, we also make efforts in our daily operations to do our part. We believe the purchase of these hybrid electric vehicles is one small way that we can be stewards of the environment.

The new hybrid electric vehicles combine the internal combustion engine of a conventional vehicle with the battery and electric motor of an electric vehicle, resulting in twice the fuel economy of conventional vehicles. These vehicles result in more efficient cars that improve fuel economy, while benefiting our environment by reducing fuel emissions in the air.

Although this is our first HEV purchase, Jackson EMC has been close to the electric vehicle technology through our support of the electric vehicle program in Georgia schools. The Electric Vehicle Rally is a competition that lasts two days. Approximately 200 students and teachers from all over Georgia participate. All schools devote a tremendous amount of time and hard work to their electric vehicle programs in preparation for the competition. Jackson EMC employees support the program in several schools, making sure students and teachers have everything needed to make their electric vehicle program a success.

Whether we're in schools, our offices or out on the roads, our dedication to efficient living and protecting the environment is ongoing. We don't think it's anything special or out of the ordinary, it's just a part of our job as responsible corporate citizens in your community.
