The Jackson EMC Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization set up to represent the members of Jackson EMC and the funds collected through Operation Round Up® for charitable purposes. The mission of the foundation is to distribute money collected from Jackson EMC members through Operation Round Up to worthwhile, charitable purposes that will improve lives and respond to immediate needs within the counties where the cooperative provides electric service.
The foundation's Board of Directors reviews Operation Round Up grant applications. The following are the local community leaders serving on the board:
George W. Evans has been a Banks County resident for 30 years and serves part-time as chairman, director, loan committee member and business development officer for First Georgia Banking Company in Homer and Jefferson.
George has had a 47-year career in banking, and has been a director of the Georgia Mountains Economic Development Corporation for 20 years.
George's community involvement includes serving as a past president of the Banks County Chamber of Commerce, member and past-president of the Commerce Kiwanis Club; member and past-president of the Homer Ruritan Club; president of the Mended Hearts Chapter 171; and treasurer of the Commerce Lions Club.
Gwen Hill is a Barrow County resident. Gwen is the co-owner of Hill's Ace Hardware and Lumber Center, and she also serves as the in-house accountant.
Gwen's community involvement includes Barrow County Cooperative Benevolence Ministries, President; Barrow County Chamber of Commerce, past chairman; Barrow County Citizen of the Year, 2001; Winder Noon Lions Club, past president and current secretary; Winder First Methodist Church, past board chairman and currently helps with children's choir and teaches adult Sunday school class; Main Street, Board of Directors; and Peace Place Shelter, Board of Directors.
Johnny Fowler is an Athens/Clarke County retiree who has served as Athens-Clarke County city clerk, treasurer and budget officer, and still conducts audits for the county as an independent contractor. He has served on the board of the Tax Assessors of Clarke County since 1991.
Johnny plays an active role in area community activities, serving as chair of the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau, organizer and member of the Clarke County Crime Stoppers Board, as well as serving for many years on the board of the United Way of Northeast Georgia, where he is now chair of Planned Giving and member of the Trustees of Endowment.
Beauty Baldwin is a Gwinnett County resident. Beauty is currently the school administrator of Hopewell Christian Academy and is a retired superintendent of Buford City Schools.
Beauty's community involvement includes United Way, Chair of the Norcross Prototype; Northeast Council of Boy Scouts of America; Gwinnett Rotary Club, chair of Youth Activities; Gwinnett County Board of Registrations and Elections; Georgia Health Planning Review Board 2001 (appointed by the Governor); Gwinnett Foundation, chair of Grants Committee; Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors; Georgia Council of Adult Literacy; Gwinnett Coalition for Health and Human Services, 1997 chair; American Red Cross, Gwinnett Service Center Advisory Board; Hopewell Baptist Church, chair of Finance Committee; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., (Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter) chair 1998-present; Human Relations Advisory Council for Gwinnett County Schools, co-chair; and Gwinnett Children Shelter Advisory Board Member.
In addition, her recent awards of recognition include Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter (Alpha Kappa Alpha) "Woman of the Year" Award, 1997; Women Community Leaders Heroines of Distinction Award, 1999 (Alpha Kappa Alpha); Georgia School Superintendent Distinguished Service Award, 2000; Educator of the Year, 1999; and National Association of University Women-Metro Atlanta Branch "Women With Wings Award," 2001.
Joyce Britt is a Gwinnett County resident who manages real estate rental properties. Joyce's previous experience includes 19 years as a major account representative for an office equipment company.
Joyce also serves alongside her husband, Billy, who is on staff at Hebron Baptist Church. Joyce teaches a "Single Mom's" Sunday School Small Group class at Hebron. She and Billy also have a non-profit business called Sunday School Growth Institute, Inc., which nationally trains church leaders, teachers and Sunday school classes on how to grow their church through Sunday school.
Joyce's community involvement includes volunteering with the Gwinnett Sexual Assault Center. She has also served and supported the American Cancer Society and been involved in Chamber of Commerce events.
Sherry Rogers is a Hall County resident. She is retired from AT&T and currently provides office support to the staff at Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church. One of her functions there is ministering to needy families and individuals.
Sherry's community involvement includes serving meals at Good News at Noon and serving as Hall County Mentor for two second-grade boys at Chestnut Mountain Elementary School. She is currently working on a Habitat for Humanity house in South Hall County.
Shade Storey is a Jackson County resident and vice president of Community Bank & Trust.
Shade's community involvement includes serving as a member of Jefferson Rotary, Georgia Cattleman's Association and Jackson County Builder's Association. In addition, he is a student mentor at Jefferson Middle School. Shade is also a 2005 Leadership Jackson County graduate.
Dr. Robert Hooper is a resident of Madison County and owns a dental practice in Danielsville.
Dr. Hooper's community service includes working with the Partners in Education (PIE) program at Ila Elementary and working as a youth director and Sunday school teacher at Erastus Christian Church.
