Mechanical engineer with extensive expertise in commercial energy management and HVAC system design.

Alan C. Shedd, P.E., is a registered mechanical engineer with Jackson EMC's Commercial and Industrial Marketing division, who holds a degree in engineering science and mechanics, with an energy engineering certificate from Georgia Institute of Technology.

His professional involvement includes commercial and institutional energy management, energy analysis and HVAC system design in the United States and Europe. Alan also conducts professional education programs and energy audits, and works with HVAC, service water heating and environmental technology issues. He works with local and state student groups to develop electric vehicles (EVs) and bring EVs into the classroom.

Alan is co-author of several publications including the Commercial Heat Pump Water Heaters Applications Handbook and Commercial Water Heating Applications Handbook for the Electric Power Research Institute, and several fact sheets on heat recovery systems and high-efficiency chillers. Alan also contributed to the American Society of Plumbing Engineer's Domestic Water Heating Design Manual and he co-developed HOTCALC and WATSMPL, microcomputer-based commercial water heating simulation tools.

A member of the board of directors for the Heat Pump Water Heating Council, Alan also serves on the Cooperative Research Network’s Marketing and Energy Services Task Force. He is past chairman of the Service Water Heating Technical Committee, American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and chairman of the task group for development of a commercial heat pump water heater test procedure, SPC 118.1-1993R, Method of Testing for Rating Commercial Gas Electric and Oil Water Heaters, ASHRAE. In addition to his many activities, Alan conducts a short course for ASHRAE on commercial heat pump water heater applications for the Heat Pump Water Heater Council.
