On The Right Track

We're hosting the largest scholarship reception the cooperative has seen, with two lucky students winning both local and statewide scholarships.

Georgia EMC awards the statewide Walter-Harrison scholarships where applicants compete with students from all over Georgia. Jackson EMC celebrates our seven scholarship winners, whose commitment to hard work and education paid off to the sum of thousands of dollars in scholarship money.

Ian Bennett

A.T. Sharpton-Gainesville State College Winner
By 2011, Ian Bennett plans to start his career in Computer Information Systems. A recent graduate of Bennett Academy (a family home-school program), Ian says his musical studies have provided him lifelong learning that he will use throughout his life. A member of a professional string quartet, Ian will attend Gainesville State College in the fall. Ian is the son of Stephen and Willette Bennett of Gainesville.

Jacob Chastain

Georgia EMC Walter-Harrison WinnerJacob Chastain received a double surprise when he was chosen as Jackson EMC's Walter-Harrison winner and Georgia EMC's statewide winner, as well. The son of Kim and Ken Chastain of Buford, Jacob is a graduate of Mill Creek High School and plans to attend the University of Georgia. Although he hasn't determined his major, Jacob realizes the value of a higher education. A competitive tennis player, Jacob volunteers his time teaching young people to play tennis.

Cameron Chubb

The University of West Georgia will have another bright star among its freshman class as Cameron Chubb, also a two-scholarship winner, enters this fall. The son of Cornelius and Diane Chubb of Bethlehem, Cameron is a recent graduate of Apalachee High School. Lettering in basketball his junior year, Cameron also has a strong sense of community, maintaining the grounds at his local church, serving on the usher board and as an Alcolyte. Cameron plans to pursue a career in Computer Technology or Digital Media Development.

Richard Dempsey

Georgia EMC Walter-Harrison Winner
Multi-tasking is no small feat for Richard Dempsey, son of Doug and Gail Dempsey of Lawrenceville. While attending Berkmar High School, Richard participated in the marching band, played basketball, and took gifted and advanced placement classes. Richard is a freshman at Mercer University School of Engineering where he plans to major in Aerospace Engineering. Richard also earned a music scholarship from Mercer. Not to venture too far from home just yet, Richard plans to spend his summer breaks at home to help out with the family.
