Get a Healthy Start at This Year's Health Fair
An estimated 3,500 Georgians die every year because they don't get enough physical activity. Inactive adults are more likely to be obese, have diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, and arthritis and report poor mental health than regularly active adults according to the 2006 Georgia Physical Activity Surveillance Report.
In an effort to help the people of Georgia live healthier lives and to reduce the burden of chronic disease and other illnesses, Governor Sonny Perdue and the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) have joined forces by launching the Live Healthy Georgia campaign. The plan identifies nutrition, physical activity, television viewing, and a variety of other strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The program encourages Georgians to:
- Get Checked - Receive the appropriate health screening
- Be Smoke Free - Eliminate Tobacco Use
- Be Active - Increase and maintain physical activity
- Eat Healthy - Follow a low-fat diet rich in fruits, vegetables and grains
- Be Positive - Achieve and maintain a state of mental wellness
Haven't made time for those regular check-ups or doctor's visits? No problem. Drop by the Health Fair and get everything from blood sugar to cholesterol tests. Most services are free, and a small fee for others.
Each of the first 500 participants will receive a compact pillbox. Keep up with your daily dosages or carry with you when you're out and about.
